Size: 2.5 – 3 inches (6.3 – 7.6 cm)

Shape: Strong body, long-legged hairy

Nutrition: Carnivore. Insects and small vertebrates

Habitat: Arizona, New Mexico and parts of Mexico

General Behavior

During the day, they close the nest entrance to protect themselves from heat and predators.

They build nests a few inches into the ground.

They are calm and not aggressive to humans.

They prefer to live alone.

They usually hunt at night.

They mate in the fall.

They protect their eggs with a silk pouch.

Threats

Natural habitats are under threat due to urbanization and environmental factors.

How Do We Recognize Infestation?

They nest in sandy and loose soils.

In the fall they can be seen wandering in the open field.
