Habitat: Worldwide

General Behavior

They are active in flour mills, food warehouses, storage facilities, kitchens, food markets, etc.

Between 21°C and 35°C is the optimum temperature for them to live.

They lay their eggs directly in food sources.

Larvae damage food products by entering inside them.

Their life cycle is between 6 and 10 weeks under ideal conditions.

Adults cannot fly. They invade by crawling.

Threats

They cause serious economic damage by infesting food crops and warehouses.

How Do We Recognize Infestation?

Visible insects on surfaces and food.

Cream-yellow colored larvae in food products.

Flour and cereals clumping or discoloration.

Causes a musty odor.
