Habitat: Western regions of the USA, including California, Oregon, Washington and Nevada

General Behavior

They usually live in logs and rotting timber found in water bodies.

They build their nests in wood. Their colonies are smaller.

Swarming usually takes place after late summer rains.

They feed on cellulose in the wood. They are not aggressive towards humans.

They cannot live in dry environments.
